Surveillance cameras captured the sudden violence on March 5 afternoon near Stockton and Sacramento streets. A man stood waiting to cross when Jian Feng Huang, 38, lunged from behind and plunged a kitchen knife into his lower back.[2] The 3-to-4-inch wound narrowly missed vital organs, but blood poured from the gash as the victim clutched his side, stumbled, and collapsed to the pavement.
Bystanders rushed to aid the injured man, applying pressure to the wound and summoning emergency services. Police arrived swiftly, located Huang blocks away on Powell Street, and recovered the bloodied blade from a plastic bag he tried to discard. The victim underwent surgery and entered a medically induced coma, where he remained hospitalized.[1]
