SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — An Amazon van that was stolen while its driver was making deliveries on Sunday in San Francisco was recovered at a McDonald’s in the East Bay, the California Highway Patrol said.
After the driver reported the theft to authorities, the van and the suspected thief were spotted crossing the Bay Bridge eastward toward Oakland. CHP officers tracking the van found it parked at the McDonald’s in Albany and made contact with the shoeless suspect.
Despite not wearing any shoes and not wearing an Amazon uniform, the suspected thief attempted to convince the officers that he was an employee, according to CHP. Amazon confirmed to authorities that the suspect was not an employee, and he was arrested for motor vehicle theft, grand theft of packages and possession of stolen property.
Photos shared by state police show numerous opened packages strewn about in the back of the van.
“If you’re going to pretend to be a delivery driver… at least wear shoes,” CHP said…
