Petition seeks to rename Cesar Chavez Street in SF to Chuck Norris Boulevard

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — In the wake of explosive abuse allegations against now-disgraced civil rights and labor leader Cesar Chavez, a former candidate for San Francisco District Supervisor has started a petition to rename Cesar Chavez Street in San Francisco to instead honor legendary tough guy Chuck Norris.

Stephen M. Pinto, who ran for District Supervisor 7 in 2024, posted on X Friday that he has a message for the SF Board of Supervisors. “Please help us in our effort to rename Cesar Chavez Street to Chuck Norris Boulevard! Sign our jotform and tell the San Francisco Board of Supervisors WE WANT CHUCK NORRIS BOULEVARD!!!”

It was announced by the family of Norris on Friday that the famed martial artist-turned-movie star, known for movies like “Delta Force” and “Missing in Action,” and the show “Walker, Texas Ranger,” died at 86 after suffering a medical emergency in Hawaii.

In the petition JotForm, it reads, “In light of the recent controversy around Cesar Chavez and his misconduct, many people in the community feel that his name is no longer worthy of recognition. Many are even calling for the re-naming of any monument, building, school, or road named after Cesar Chavez. We feel that Carlos Ray “Chuck” Norris is worthy of recognition and his name should be memorialized on the street that is currently named for Cesar Chavez (formerly Army Street).”

As of this writing, the original social post has 3,577 views, while a follow-up post with the petition form has 889 views.

Since the allegations surfaced concerning Chavez, California lawmakers said they are putting legislation together to rename Cesar Chavez Day on March 31 to instead be called “Farmworkers Day.”…
