East Oakland Car Ambush Leaves Two Wounded On Weld Street

Just before 1 AM today, a barrage of gunfire tore into a moving car in East Oakland, leaving a 27-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man wounded, authorities said. The woman was struck at least three times and the man at least twice, and both were taken to a hospital in stable condition. The targeted vehicle later crashed on the 6900 block of Weld Street, and witnesses told police the shooters fled in a car.

The shooting was first reported by The Mercury News, which cited police in describing the attack on the moving vehicle and noted that investigators had not yet released detailed descriptions of the suspects.

According to the Oakland Police Department’s daily log, officers received a call at roughly 12:59 AM and responded to the 6900 block of Weld Street after a gunshot-detection alert system flagged the incident. The log notes multiple gunshot victims and lists at least two suspects who opened fire on the moving vehicle; investigators say the motive remains under investigation.
