East Oakland’s cult‑favorite carnitas lonchera, Carnitas Carnitas Zamora, is trading a set of truck keys for a set of front‑door keys. The Sunday destination is opening its first brick‑and‑mortar taqueria in April at 6633 Bancroft Ave. Owner Alejandro Rocha told the SF Chronicle, “They gave us the keys Wednesday. We’re very excited but also nervous.” The new spot will let the crew sling its signature cuts more often, while the beloved food truck keeps rolling on Sundays.
Rocha plans to stick with the formula that turned the truck into a weekend habit: pork braised in lard, chopped with a cleaver and served as maciza (loin), ribs, skin and buche in handmade corn tortillas or sold by the pound. Diners will still get to doctor their plates at a condiment bar stocked…..
