Man gets 100 years to life for fatal S.F. encampment stabbing

A man was sentenced to 100 years to life in state prison for a 2023 double stabbing in a South of Market encampment that killed one person, the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office said Thursday.

Dennis Duree, 41, was convicted last year of first-degree murder, attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. His sentencing comes more than two years after he fatally stabbed Brandon Mitchell and injured an unidentified woman in the early morning hours of Dec. 28, 2023.

Prosecutors said Duree was acquainted with the two victims, who had set up an encampment near the intersection of Mission and Washburn streets, and joined the pair on a mattress on the sidewalk shortly before the stabbing…
