Panhandler tries to ditch methamphetamine when approached by deputy

A panhandler was arrested after throwing a suspected baggie of methamphetamine into oncoming traffic, destroying its contents.

A deputy spotted 55-year-old Ronald Clayton Gores asking for money in the median at the intersection of State Road 44 and I-75 in Wildwood around 9:55 a.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Pulling into the closest lane, the deputy stepped out of his patrol vehicle to speak with an extremely nervous Gores. He had many things in his pockets, including two knives, so he agreed to remove everything. This included a small white container with a twistable cap, the report said.

The deputy asked what was in the container, to which Gores stated nothing. He still agreed to open the container and reveal a clear plastic baggie folded inside. Its contents resembled methamphetamine, so the deputy went to handcuff Gores for further investigation, the report said…
