An 83-year-old resident of the Village of Bradford was arrested Friday morning after witnesses reported seeing her throwing small bottles of alcohol out of her vehicle.
Janice Gail Swanson was located by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies at approximately 10:45 a.m. in the driver’s seat of her Lexus SUV at the entrance to the Continental Country Club in Wildwood. Witnesses had contacted 911 to report that the driver appeared to be intoxicated.
When deputies arrived, they noted that Swanson had bloodshot, glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol on her breath. Two empty 50ml “Pink Whitney” bottles were observed in the vehicle’s center cup holder. Due to her age, EMS was called to the scene; while she was being evaluated, deputies noted that Swanson was unsteady on her feet and had to hold onto an officer for balance.
Although Swanson agreed to a horizontal gaze nystagmus exercise, which she failed, she became upset when asked to perform further field sobriety exercises and demanded a lawyer…
