Wildwood police apprehend man with expired Mexican passport

A Belleview man with an expired Mexican passport was arrested Tuesday morning after a traffic stop in Wildwood revealed he was driving without a license for the second time.

Ariel Pascual Martinez, 28, was driving a silver Toyota RAV4 south on U.S. Highway 301 near Cleveland Avenue when a Wildwood Police Department officer noticed the vehicle’s heavily tinted windows.

A routine computer check of the vehicle’s license plate revealed the registered owner did not possess a Florida driver’s license or identification card. The database query also showed the owner had a previous conviction in Sumter County for driving without a license in March 2023.

The officer initiated a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Truist Bank on South Main Street. When asked for his credentials, Martinez admitted he did not have a driver’s license.
