Proposal for animal water cremation facility at Marion site coming to commissioners following 60-day delay

A proposal to establish an aquatic cremation facility for animals in northern Marion County is returning before county commissioners on Tuesday, following a two-month delay to allow the applicants time to gather detailed operational and environmental information.

Applicants Paula Dempsey and Ted Stone are requesting a special use permit to convert the former Orange Lake VFW Post 10733 into a water-based pet cremation facility.

The 1.55-acre parcel is located at 19241 N. U.S. Highway 441 in Reddick, outside the Urban Growth Boundary and within the county’s Farmland Preservation Area.

The Marion County Board of County Commissioners previously voted unanimously on June 17 to table the request for 60 days after expressing hesitation over the applicants’ inability to answer specific operational questions regarding water volume, chemical handling, and waste management, among other concerns…
