Ocala mother, daughter recovering after shooting followed altercation

OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) – An Ocala mother and her 5-year-old daughter are expected to recover after being shot Monday night, following an altercation that happened about an hour earlier, police said.

Altercation at apartment complex

Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken said officers were called to the Sutton apartment complex around 8 p.m. Monday for an altercation that started with a group of kids and then included adults.

Balken said a family left the scene and went to a nearby apartment complex. The family eventually left that area and was followed on the way home.

Shooting on 11th Avenue

At around 9:45 p.m., police responded to Southeast 11th Avenue near Todd Prosser Park. Police said the vehicle following the family opened fire.

The mother was shot in the hand. Her daughter was shot in the chest. Police said the suspect left the area while the victims went to the hospital…
