Three Marion County McDonald’s employees credited with saving elderly man’s life

A little more than two months ago, three McDonald’s employees in Marion County were credited with saving the life of an elderly man who had collapsed in the restaurant.

Darlene Williams and Gaffwood Saintbreaux, two of three employees working on Nov. 22 when the customer was in the restaurant, didn’t think much about their actions.

On Friday, Williams and Saintbreaux were sitting at a table inside the business when they were each presented with a box of cupcakes, flowers and a $100 gift card from the store owner, and applauded for the actions by coworkers, well-wishers and customers.

The third employee, Jackie Gonzalez, was away and unable to attend the surprise celebration.

“We got so many unsung heroes in our McDonald’s restaurant,” said Andree Kocian, owner of the McDonald’s at 2095 SW County Road 484 in Ocala, along with her husband, Kenneth Kocian.

In making the announcement in front of onlooking customers, Kocian’s daughter and future McDonald’s owner, Nicole Kocian, said the employees’ “quick thinking and timely actions” saved the customer’s life.
