TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Two Citrus County residents were arrested this week after animal control officers responded to a barking call, only to discover eight dogs living in a filth-ridden home, according to a Friday release.
The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office said Animal Control first found three chihuahuas loose in a garbage-covered front yard of a home on South Tyler Street in Beverly Hills.

Animal control officers said they could smell feces and ammonia and saw a puppy and a white husky through the windows from outside the home. After going around to the backyard, they found a chihuahua lying on a blanket that appeared to have a delayed response.
“The Chihuahua tried to run away when ACOs attempted to pick her up, but she fell over several times – she was taken to Citrus County Animal Services for immediate care,” the sheriff’s office said.
The signs of neglect made deputies think the homeowner may have needed help, but the sheriff’s office said once they entered the home, they discovered that that the home was without power and in disgusting condition.
