Dunnellon city officials poised to appoint finance officer

Dunnellon officials have signaled their intent to appoint a replacement for the city’s soon-to-be outgoing finance officer.

At a workshop held Monday, Mayor Walter Green, Vice Mayor Tim Inskeep and council members Valerie Hanchar and Rex Lehmann indicated they would support Shonna McLean, a former city employee, for the position.

City Clerk Mandy Odom introduced the topic. Although the measure was mentioned to city officials, no decision was made because it was a workshop. The issue is expected to be on the council’s Aug. 14 agenda for a vote.

According to a city document, Jan Smith , the current finance officer, is retiring Dec. 31. The document states the position had been advertised and three applicants had applied. Two of the three were interviewed by Odom and Smith last month, with McLean picked as the best candidate.

If approved, McLean would come onboard before Oct., 1 so she can familiarize herself with the job.

McLean has managed customer service, billing and receivables for Rainbow Springs Utilities for six years. She previously worked at the Levy County Clerk of Court as an accountant/budget analyst.
