Man, 84, hit and killed by golf cart driven by woman, 93, in On Top of the World

ON TOP OF THE WORLD — An 84-year-old man was killed early Wednesday when he was hit by a golf cart in this retirement community. Here’s what we know:

Where did it happen? In the 9300 block of Southwest 94th Street in On Top of the World.

What time did first responders receive the call? James Lucas of Marion County Fire Rescue said his agency was assigned the call at 6:47 a.m. and arrived at 6:55 a.m. The victim was pronounced deceased two minutes later.

Any other first responders at the scene? Yes, the Florida Highway Patrol.

What happened? Troopers said the mechanized vehicle, driven by a 93-year-old woman, was westbound in the eastbound multimodal path of 94th Street. FHP officials said the pedestrian was walking westbound in the eastbound multimodal path. The front of the cart struck him from behind. The golf cart driver stopped.

Officials said the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Both the man and woman are from Ocala, authorities said. Troopers said the man was walking his dog when he was hit. They said someone found the dog and brought it back to his residence.
