SILVER SPRINGS — A vehicle with a body inside was discovered in a densely wooded area off a well-traveled roadway Thursday afternoon.
Here’s what we know:
What’s the location? Along Baseline Road (58th Avenue) not far from Northeast 24th Street in Silver Springs.
How was the deceased found? Florida Highway Patrol troopers on scene said a motorist passing by saw lights in the woods and called 911.
Marion County Fire Rescue spokesman James Lucas said his agency was notified at 4:51 p.m., arrived at 4:56 p.m., and pronounced the person deceased at 4:58 p.m.
What do FHP officials believe happen? From their investigation, troopers said the vehicle, a Toyota, was tracked traveling westbound on State Road 40, less than a mile away from Baseline Road, shortly before 9:30 a.m. The vehicle is then tracked turning left onto Baseline Road.
From there, the car was tracked passing by Northeast 24th Street, where it veered off the roadway. The vehicle then traveled onto a grassy service road and into the woods.
