New Tex-Mex-style restaurant to open in The Villages

The company that founded Hooters is setting its sights on Villagers’ appetites for Tex-Mex food and margaritas, and, quite likely, the discretionary income that comes with keeping the tab open.

HMC Hospitality Group , the founder of the Hooters concept, has signed a licensing deal with Tacos & Tequila Cantina for expansion in The Villages along with Pasco, Pinellas and Hillsborough counties.

Locations haven’t been announced yet. HMC Hospitality Group is currently looking for available location sites.

Founded in 2013 by Kelly and Aldo Musico , Tacos & Tequila Cantina has four locations in Naples and Estero.

“This is the kind of Mex place that puts ‘party’ in the equation, but its food is genuine and fresh,” said a USA Today 10 Best article , adding that the joint offers affordable food for the quality offered.

Tacos & Tequila promoters say their food and atmosphere are distinctive. The bar-eatery features “a chef-inspired menu” including items with fun and offbeat names and twists, and specialty drinks with an Americana flair, using premium ingredients and fresh local products. It also claims to sell “authentic tortillas” and top-shelf liquors.
