Soul food is a favorite in the South, including in Florida. The food is hearty, comforting, and often plentiful and inexpensive. And there are some nice options in Florida for Floridians who want to eat seafood at a restaurant, including Big John’s eatery and Georgia Mae’s to name a few options. But one very popular option, Big Man’s Cafe, is expanding with a new Ocala store.
About Big Man’s Cafe: The motto of this eatery is “Southern food with soul.” Its Facebook page makes it obvious that it is community-oriented. It fed utility workers after Helen, and it is a family-run and owned business.
The community appears to enjoy this restaurant, awarding it a high 4.8 stars on Google reviews. Reviewers mention menu items like fried pork chops, oxtail, fried chicken, okra, and collard greens.

Oh my! (I) made the drive from Gainesville and it was totally worth it. Prices are insanely cheap for the amount of soul food you get. I had the smothered pork chops with okra collard greens and corn nuggets. (It’s) been a while since I had the chance to eat something that sticks. The gravy was amazing. Everything was hot and delicious. Customer service is what you expect in a southern eatery. Wait staff (were) very friendly and efficient. Restaurant is clean and the air conditioning is definitely keeping me in this booth. Be sure to ask for Neciy and Ciera.”
