The son of a couple in The Villages was arrested after he was spotted driving a golf cart across U.S. Hwy. 441 near UF Health-Spanish Plaines Hospital.
Chad Basford, 47, who lives with his parents on SE 80th Bella Vista Circle in the Village of Calumet Grove, was driving a black and yellow golf cart at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday when he crossed U.S. Hwy. 441, which is not an authorized roadway for golf cart crossings, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
During a traffic stop, Basford admitted he did not have a driver’s license. The deputy found that Basford’s license has been suspended since 2014 due to multiple convictions for driving under the influence.
