Suspected drunk driver admits to drinking five beers at sports bar in Leesburg

A Mount Dora man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence after drinking five beers at CR Sports Bar in Leesburg.

A wrecker driver reported the driver of a white Ford F250, later identified as 49-year-old Gabriel Lee Crawley, who had driven recklessly through an active hit-and-run crash scene at County Road 44 and Forest Drive in Leesburg at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Florida Highway Patrol. He told a trooper that the vehicle failed to maintain its lane and ran a red light at the intersection.

Concerned about this reckless behavior, the trooper headed east on County Road 44 to find the vehicle. He spotted it just past Harbor Shores Road and noticed it repeatedly veering across both the double solid yellow centerline with the left tires and the outside white fog line with the right tires, the report said.

Due to this unsafe driving pattern and oncoming westbound traffic, the trooper initiated a traffic stop just west of Fish Camp Road. He approached Crawley, the sole occupant of the vehicle, and requested his driver’s license. This was used to confirm he was the registered owner of the vehicle, the report said…
