Multiple sinkholes close Ocala Wetland Recharge Park

The Ocala Wetland Recharge Park has been temporarily closed by city officials again due to several sinkholes opening at the property, marking a problem that has plagued the facility at least a half a dozen times since it first opened in 2020.

The city reported the closure due to sinkholes and subsidences on Friday evening.

“The Ocala Wetland Recharge Park is temporarily closed due to multiple areas of ground subsidence and sink holes. The park will remain closed until a full assessment is completed and it is safe to reopen,” reads a statement from the city.

The Ocala Wetland Recharge Park opened to the public in the fall of 2020. Located at 2105 NW 21st Street in northwest Ocala, sinkholes and subsidences have been a constant since its inception, even delaying the opening of the park in 2019.
