A Tavares man was arrested for DUI after being stopped for going over 100mph and driving recklessly near Lake Square Mall.
An officer was dispatched to the area of Gator Harley-Davidson, located at 1745 U.S. Hwy. 441, regarding a reckless driver, later identified as 25-year-old Daniel Pavlo Van Heerden, headed southbound toward Tavares at 9:30 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
Dispatch advised that a white Isuzu SUV almost struck four vehicles and was still driving recklessly toward the intersection of Sleepy Hollow and U.S. Hwy. 441. The officer responded from Lake Square Mall, located at 10401 U.S. Hwy. 441, about 3.7 miles from where the vehicle was last seen, the report said.
The officer traveled northbound on U.S. Hwy. 441 and spotted the vehicle speeding while coming through the intersection of Lake Harris Cove Avenue and College Drive. Radar confirmed the vehicle to be going 102mph in a 45mph zone.
