Hit-and-run suspect tracked down after crashing into golf cart at Middelton

A hit-and-run suspect has been tracked down after his pickup allegedly crashed into a golf cart at Middleton.

Jason Michael McCray, 49, of Fruitland Park, is facing a felony charge of hit and run following his arrest on a warrant charging him with fleeing the scene of the crash in 2024 in the family area of The Villages near The Villages Charter School campus.

A man was driving a golf cart on Aug. 2 traveling northeast on Priddy Way when a truck traveling at a high rate of speed hit his golf cart. The golf cart driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at the UF Health Emergency Room Clinic at Brownwood, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. The truck fled the scene.

McCray’s black Ford F-150 pickup was caught on video surveillance at about the time of the hit-and-run crash making a right turn onto Leanne Lane from Stampeder Trail when the truck jumped the curb and hit the gate arm at the entrance to Middleton.
