Former hospital staffer escapes prosecution in ripoff of patients

A former staffer at UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital in The Villages has escaped prosecution in the theft of credit cards from patients.

Sandra Dee Mack, 46, of Ocala, will not face charges of theft and fraud because the prosecutor’s office has determined that it cannot prove its case, according to a document on file in Sumter County Court. Her alleged accomplice, 28-year-old Jumari Bishop of Ocala, has been placed on probation for four years.

An investigation began after the daughter of an 88-year-old woman notified law enforcement that $100 in cash and a Wells Fargo debit card were stolen from her mother’s purse while she was a patient at the hospital. The daughter found there had been unauthorized transactions on the debit card, including at the nearby Circle K on Buenos Aires Boulevard, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office…
