Unlicensed driver from Mexico stopped on the way to Plant City for work

An unlicensed driver from Mexico was arrested in Sumter County while driving to work.

A deputy stopped a white Hyundai passenger car for a broken tag light at 2 a.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The driver, later identified as 32-year-old Esteban Islas Trejo of Ocala, pulled over at Market Boulevard and Southeast Third Avenue in Webster.

The deputy approached Islas Trejo and explained the reason for the stop, to which he handed over a Mexico passport. He stated he did not have a driver’s license and never got one in the United States. Still, he was headed to Plant City from Ocala for work purposes, the report said.

Islas Trejo was given a notepad to write down his information, including his address, phone number and where he was born. The report noted that while using law enforcement databases, the deputy could not find a valid driver’s license for him, the report said…
