A pair of Leesburg men were arrested when one was caught without a license and the other with drugs during a traffic stop.
A deputy saw a grey 2013 Chevrolet truck disobey a stop sign on Lakeland Avenue and South Haines Creek Road, Leesburg, around 3:05 a.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. He immediately stopped the vehicle and approached the occupants, 60-year-old David Gene Price and 25-year-old Jonathan Joseph Belcher.
The deputy explained the reason for the stop to Price, the driver, who stated he was not paying attention while talking to Belcher. He was asked for his driver’s license but handed over a Florida ID. A check of this information revealed his license had been suspended as of Aug. 9, 2023, he had two DUI convictions, and he had four driving while license suspended convictions, the report said.
Meanwhile, Belcher constantly moved around in the front seat and put his hands where the deputy could not see. He had Belcher step out of the vehicle, which was when he noticed a small clear baggie with five blue pills laying under his left thigh. These were later identified as Xanax, the report said…
