Wildwood woman allegedly fires gun over man’s head after following his pickup

A Wildwood woman was arrested for assault after allegedly following a driver and firing a shot over his head when they both pulled over.

Dispatch got a call from a frantic man who stated 46-year-old Star Lynn Brooks had shot a gun at him around 3:35 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. She could be heard in the background of the call.

Deputies responded to the scene, located at the intersection of County Road 515 and Warm Springs Avenue in Wildwood, where they found Brooks. She and the victim initially said the gun firing was accidental. However, there were two unspent rounds of ammunition on the ground and one spent casing. The weapon recovered at the scene was a 9mm Keltec handgun, the report said.

The deputies spoke to the victim again and were told that he was driving from Leesburg in his red Ford pickup with his girlfriend. Brooks saw his vehicle and proceeded to follow him. Both vehicles pulled over at the intersection, and verbal altercations ensued, the report said…
