Villager in BMW with Indiana plates arrested with cocaine

A Villager in a BMW with Indiana license plates was arrested with cocaine after a traffic stop.

Laura Gillette, 56, who lives in the Village of Mira Mesa, was driving the red BMW shortly before midnight Saturday on County Road 25 near Griffin Avenue when a police officer noticed that the vehicle had a non-functioning taillight, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

During a traffic stop, the officer asked Gillette if he could search her car. She refused. A K-9 unit was summoned to the scene and the dog alerted on the vehicle, indicating the likely presence of drugs. A search of Gillette’s Coach handbag turned up 3.71 grams of cocaine and a small black scale with the residue of cocaine.

She was arrested on charges of drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $3,500 bond…
