A Villager was arrested after a marital argument allegedly turned violent.

Merrie Teresa Gaik, 68, of the Village of Charlotte, was arrested Monday night on a charge of domestic battery.

She had been arguing with her husband in the living room of their home when she began removing his valuables and placing them on the master bed in the master bedroom, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. She also headed for a spare bedroom where her husband stored his drum set. She began removing the drum set, even though her husband had asked her not to do so, according to the report. He said that he feared that due to her “emotional state,” Gaik might try to damage his drum set.

He reached for her arm in a “non-threatening fashion,” prompting her to slap him in the face with her hand. She later characterized her action as a “shove,” when interviewed by deputies…
