A Lady Lake man was arrested after an officer found an MDMA pill in his vehicle during a traffic stop.
An officer observed a black Chevrolet Cruze traveling northbound on Dixie Avenue around 11:05 a.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. He noticed a steady cloud of white smoke coming from its exhaust and initiated a traffic stop in the area of Shiloh Street and Dixie Avenue. Before the stop, he learned the registered owner, 40-year-old Christopher Charles Baker, had a suspended license since June 23 for financial responsibility.
The report noted that notice of the suspension was given to Baker the same day it happened. Being that the officer had a reasonable suspicion Baker knowingly was driving with a suspended license, he deployed his K-9 partner to sniff around the outside of the vehicle. The K-9 alerted to the odor of narcotics, and a probable cause search of the vehicle ensued.
The officer asked Baker and the female passenger to get out of the vehicle and asked if there was anything illegal inside. They both stated, “Not that I know of.” However, the officer found a purple grenade-shaped pill with a glittery sheen in the area of the door handle on the driver’s side.
