Leesburg police seize cash and drugs after pulling over Mercedes

A Mount Dora man was arrested on drug charges when officers found over five pounds of marijuana and other narcotics in his vehicle.

Officers spotted the driver of a black Mercedes, later identified as 29-year-old Derontay Keshawn Hill, leaving a known narcotic spot in Leesburg at 5:30 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. The tint covering the entire windshield of the vehicle was a clear violation, and the front and rear windows also appeared to have illegal tint coverage.

Due to the infractions, the officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of West Dixie Avenue and McKenzie Street. The vehicle continued to slow roll until finally coming to rest on Park Drive. The officer informed Hill of the violation, and he acknowledged the windshield tint was illegal, the report said.

While one officer wrote a warning, another used his K-9 partner to sniff around the outside of the vehicle. The K-9 positively alerted to the odor of narcotics, leading to a search of the vehicle, the report said…
