Officer finds narcotics on path passenger took to flee from traffic stop

A Leesburg man was arrested on drug charges after an officer found containers of narcotics on the path he took to flee from law enforcement.

An officer observed a silver Toyota Highlander, with 52-year-old John Edward Robinson as a passenger, turn north on County Road 468 around 1:10 a.m. Monday, July 7, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department.

Immediately after turning, the vehicle made an illegal U-turn in the middle of the road to head south on County Road 468. It then pulled halfway off the road. The officer turned his headlights on and began to drive toward the vehicle, at which point Robinson got out to walk on the road, the report said.

The officer then turned on his emergency overhead lights and ordered Robinson to come to him. He started to flee on foot instead, going east on Myer Avenue. The officer noticed he had several things in his hands when he got out, the report said…
