Suspected shoplifter gets into argument after attempted theft of $375 in groceries

A Summerfield man was arrested after arguing with law enforcement officers and store personnel about his alleged theft of $375 in groceries from Walmart.

A deputy learned of an ongoing theft at Walmart in Summerfield at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Loss prevention officers were actively watching the suspect, 42-year-old Randall Fredrick Boettner, bag groceries.

When the deputy got there, the officers had detained Boettner inside a corridor next to the loss prevention officer near the entrance area. The deputy immediately went to assist as Boettner verbally argued with store personnel. The deputy tried to put handcuffs on Boettner to get control of the situation, but Boettner pulled his arm out and turned his body, the report said.

Another deputy made his way over and grabbed Boettner’s right arm, which he again pulled away. The deputies tried to put him in an armlock, and he continued to resist. They eventually got a handcuff on his left wrist and forced his right hand close enough to get the second cuff on, the report said…
