Convicted felon alllegedly points handgun at man at Ski Beach Park in Leesburg

A Leesburg man was arrested after pointing a gun at a man who reported his suspicious behavior in Ski Beach Park.

Officers responded to Ski Beach Park regarding a suspicious person around 6:10 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. The caller stated there was a man, later identified as 37-year-old Arthur Steven Weingartner, in a straw hat, driving a silver truck behind the volleyball courts who had been there for several hours. He had climbed a tree in the park and stated he was “talking to the stars.”

Upon arrival, the officers found the truck driving through the park gates onto the grass area toward the dead end of Lake Harris Drive. It drove toward the caller and almost hit him. The officer got out of his vehicle and saw Weingartner step out of his truck with a silver revolver-type handgun in his right hand. This was later identified as a FAP F.LLI Pietta Greata Western II revolver, the report said.

Weingartner raised the gun and pointed it at the caller. The officers commanded him several times to drop the weapon, and he put it on top of the front left tire of the truck. They told him to lay on the ground with his hands out, and he was subsequently put in their custody, the report said…
