State Road 200 was better off without the medians

After the Ocala City Council discussed traffic concerns on State Road 200, several residents wrote in to share their opinions:

“I believe that the changes on State Road 200 are absolutely ridiculous. They are causing more accidents because one has no choice but to make u-turns if you are trying to access a business on the opposite side of the road. All the concrete medians are extremely hazardous. The lanes are narrower. It’s not a matter of ‘just getting use to the new design.’ I really have no idea why one would design such a dangerous and even fatal roadway. I don’t believe redesigning SR 200 is going to get any better with the way Ocala is growing. They were better off leaving it the way it was before.”Maria DiDomizio, Ocala

“Obviously the fine folks at FDOT haven’t driven on SR 200 since their fine assessment of the road safety. The unnecessary medians in the middle of one of the busiest roads in Marion County are going to destroy businesses. I, among others, are not going to sit through multiple lights to do a U-turn in order to go to Five Guys, for example. I see many businesses moving out towards the Silver Springs Blvd area. So, not only did they spend a ton of money putting in this headache, how much more money will it cost to take it back out? Please leave the fine flower beds that the conservationist had to have to for the unkempt foliage that will die there.”Jon Johnson, Ocala
