A Summerfield man was arrested when he was caught driving with a license that had been revoked for DUI in Michigan over 20 years ago.
An officer observed 67-year-old Randy Dee Cheylava in a gold Ford SUV pulling a trailer around 12:55 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. The trailer did not have a license plate, so a traffic stop was initiated in the area of U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and Eagles Nest Road.
Cheylava handed the officer an ID card instead of a license. When questioned, he advised that he was arrested in Michigan for DUI about 20 years ago. He never had his license given back to him, the report said.
The officer returned to his vehicle and ran Cheylava’s license through a law enforcement database. He learned that while Cheylava did not have any active suspensions in Florida, he had only been issued an ID card. He instead had a one-year revocation for DUI from Michigan on Oct. 22, 1991, and a 180-day revocation for DUI in Michigan on Sept. 3, 1998, the report said…
