Habitual traffic offender caught driving with suspended license near I-75

A Wildwood man with a history of traffic offenses was arrested for driving with a suspended license near Interstate 75.

A deputy stopped 53-year-old Theodore Roosevelt Edwards, who was driving a blue Chevrolet Traverse, near the intersection of State Road 44 and I-75 at 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle’s registration had expired on July 3.

When the deputy asked Edwards for his driver’s license, he explained he did not have one and never had one issued. He instead handed over an ID card, saying he knew he would be arrested because of numerous issues with his license, the report said.

A check of his driving history revealed he had 15 active suspensions from Sept. 21, 1993, through July 1, 2025. The reasons included five failures to pay court financial obligations, three for fleeing or eluding a law enforcement officer, five for habitual traffic offender, one criminal failure to pay and one for 12 points within 12 months, the report said…
