Unlicensed motorcyclist arrested after leaving smoke shop in Wildwood

A Wildwood man was arrested after an officer saw him leave a smoke shop with illegally purchased marijuana in his pocket.

An officer saw a motorcycle backed into a space in the parking lot of the Wildwood Smoke Shop, located on Main Street near the Wildwood City Hall, around 8:30 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. Nuland Roy Cox, 65, walked out of the shop, put on his red helmet and mounted a red motorcycle.

He then started the motorcycle and rode onto Wonders Street. The motorcycle turned right onto U.S. Hwy. 301, which was when the officer saw it did not have a license plate attached to it. The officer stopped the motorcycle in the area of U.S. 301 at Johnson Street and spoke to Cox, the report said.

The officer explained the reason for the stop, and Cox advised that, “Someone must have stolen it.” A check of his driving history showed his license was permanently revoked on March 10, 2020, for four or more DUIs and suspended for financial responsibility. He was given notice on March 11, 2024, and it took effect on April 1, 2024, the report said…
