Mother sues Ocala landlord over retaliation for housing discrimination complaint

An Ocala mother claims her landlord retaliated against her after she filed a federal housing discrimination complaint in which she claimed she was being subjected to “invasive and racially charged actions,” including multiple inspections and unwritten rules.

The Florida Commission on Human Relations (FCHR) filed the lawsuit on behalf of Kayondra Smith against Gongor DE2 LLC, Talley Alliston Realty, LLC, and two other defendants in the Fifth Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County on July 28.

The commission, which is authorized to commence civil actions to enforce the provisions of the Fair Housing Act, filed the lawsuit in response to retaliation that Smith allegedly experienced after she submitted a housing discrimination complaint to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development…
