A homeless man in Leesburg was arrested after the search for a stolen vehicle ended with him parked at Berry Park.
An officer was informed of a stolen orange Hyundai Santa Fe near Center and North 14th Streets around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. The driver was later identified as 22-year-old Andre Collins Johnson, and officers canvassed the area for him without success.
At 11:08 a.m., the officer got another alert indicating the vehicle was at West Main and North 15th Streets. Law enforcement personnel responded to the area to find the vehicle. A deputy with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, using an unmarked patrol vehicle, saw it backed into a parking space at Berry Park, located at 2121 Johns Ave., the report said.
Officers and deputies then positioned themselves in the area to watch the vehicle and prepare for a possible takedown. While enroute to do so, some deputies saw Johnson get into the driver’s seat of the stolen vehicle. The report noted he was listed as the primary suspect for the stolen vehicle…
