Stonecrester allegedly attacks gate guard who refused entry to visitor

A resident of the Stonecrest community allegedly attacked a gate guard who refused entry to his visitor.

Joseph Marc Jerome Melanson, 72, is facing a felony charge of battery after the altercation with the 79-year-old guard at the 55+ community in Summerfield.

The visitor showed up at the entrance gate and said he was there to visit Melanson, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. However, the visitor’s information did not accurately match the information Melanson had provided for the guest list.

Melanson showed up at the gate and “confronted” the guard. Melanson, who stands 6 feet 2 inches and weighs 300 pounds, became “aggressive,” cornered the guard, and used his finger to poke the guard’s chest…
