A retired New York City police officer has lost his driver’s license after drinking at Brownwood Paddock Square.
William Joseph Cuff, 65, pleaded no contest this past week in Sumter County Court to a charge of driving under the influence. In addition to the loss of his driver’s license for six months, he has been placed on probation for one year and was ordered to perform 50 hours of community service.
He was found unresponsive at about 11:30 p.m. April 1 in a black Hyundai utility vehicle in a ditch on State Road 44, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle was running and the reverse lights were on.
A deputy tried to rouse Cuff and eventually got him to roll down a window. Once the window was open, the deputy reached in and turned off the engine…
