Louisiana-Style Big Dee’s BBQ Rolling into Ocala

OCALA, FL – Big Dee’s Backyard BBQ is bringing the barbecue concept with Louisiana flavor to Florida. The new food trailer, founded by chef and co-owner Demel Gibson, will officially open on August 14 at 1606 W Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, FL, 34475. Gibson told Business Debut the concept blends classic barbecue with spicy Cajun-Creole flair.

Barbecue with a Cajun Kick

Big Dee’s Backyard BBQ slow-smokes their meats every day on-site using pecan and hickory wood. For those who like spicy food, the Cajun-style ribs have received positive feedback during soft opening and test runs. Other featured items include brisket nachos and pulled pork nachos.

“We’ve had great response from the community during our soft opening,” Gibson said. “We’re gonna stick with the ribs, brisket, pulled pork, and chicken for now.”

From Louisiana to Florida

Gibson is a Louisiana native with 25 years of culinary and catering experience. Before launching Big Dee’s Backyard BBQ, Gibson co-owned The Rolling Kitchen LLC in Louisiana. His move to Florida began unexpectedly when his now-business partner, Jerriel Bazile, invited him to explore new opportunities in Ocala. Bazile and Gibson first met at a catered event in Louisiana.

“I was hired to cater a party. I thought I was just gonna fry some chicken and fish, get paid, and go home,” Gibson shared. “But this man helped change my life.”…
