Employee allegedly skip-scans $55 in merchandise at Walmart

A Walmart employee will appear in court next week for allegedly skip-scanning $55 in merchandise while working at the store in Leesburg.

An officer responded to Walmart, located at 2501 Citrus Blvd., for an internal theft at 6:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, according to a case report from the Leesburg Police Department. An asset protection associate had an employee, 30-year-old Marquice Mitchell, detained in the Loss Prevention Office.

Upon arrival, the associate advised that Mitchell had been under investigation for skip-scanning items at a self-checkout. He saw Mitchell do this on six separate occasions over video surveillance. From June 8 through July 22, he had stolen $55.35 in merchandise, including GT socks, Argo starch, hair product, travel toothpaste, clog shoes and Onn G3 earbuds, the report said…
