First of all The Villages do not own the roads. You cannot keep so-called “outsiders” from using them even if you say they need to show where they are going. That is why the guards just open the gates. They legally have to. You have the option of using the visitor side also if you want to so you don’t have to roll your window down. What do you think these gate guards are going to do to prevent any wrong doing in The Villages? They are what between 65 and 90 years old? What do you expect them to do to stop anything? They have no authority or gun to use to stop the bad people.
The money that is being used to pay gate guards would serve ALL of us better if it was used for people to work at the rec centers. We could have an outside and inside person to check IDs. The most dangerous of gates is the one on Morse Boulevard and County Road 466. With the carts having to cross over to go to the south side, someone needs to be there to slow the traffic down…
