ICE slaps hold on unlicensed driver from Mexico claiming to be headed to work

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement put a hold on a Tampa man without a license claiming to be headed to work in Ocala.

A deputy stopped 26-year-old Pedro Demetrio Guzman Serrano in a silver Dodge Ram around 8 a.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He had stopped past the stop bar at County Roads 470 and 400 in Lake Panasoffkee.

After being told the reason for the stop, Guzman Serrano handed the deputy a Mexican passport. He advised that he did not have a driver’s license and never got one in the United States. He was headed to Ocala coming from Plant City for work purposes. However, the report noted the route he was taking did not reflect his explanation.

A check of Guzman Serrano’s driving history nothing, neither a license nor a prior conviction for driving without a license. He had never applied for or been issued a license, the report said…
