A Leesburg pair were arrested after the driver was caught with a suspended license and the passenger with methamphetamine.
A deputy stopped 45-year-old Kevin Koontz and 54-year-old Tammy Colleen Kelley in a white pickup truck traveling east on Northern Avenue in Leesburg around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle had a defective headlight that was not fully bright.
Koontz told the deputy that the vehicle belonged to his boss, and he was unaware of the headlight issue. He admitted he did not have a driver’s license and was unsure where it was. While asking for more documents, including registration and insurance, the deputy also asked about weapons or illegal substances, the report said.
Koontz denied knowing about any such things and declined to let the deputy search the vehicle. He instead provided his Social Security number, which was used to learn his driver’s license had been suspended since Jan. 2015.
