Driver who ran stop sign busted with meth and smoking device

A Clermont man was arrested on drug charges when deputies found methamphetamine and a smoking device in his vehicle.

A deputy observed 34-year-old Robert Lee O’Bryan in a red Toyota passenger car in Leesburg around 12:40 a.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle did not stop behind a posted stop bar on Industrial Street, leading to a traffic stop at Thomas Avenue and Montclair Road.

When the deputy approached the vehicle, he recognized O’Bryan from prior encounters. He then asked for consent to search the vehicle, to which O’Bryan initially said yes but changed his mind. The deputy instead filled out a written warning for the stop sign violation while waiting for more deputies, the report said.

One of the deputies who came advised that he saw O’Bryan pull out a smoking device from a black bag and try to hide it. He was subsequently removed from the vehicle, and a search yielded a clear smoking device found behind the passenger seat on the floorboard.
