A man with a suspended license was arrested when a permit to travel for work revealed he was not allowed to drive in Florida.
A deputy observed 35-year-old Steven James Wells of Eustis driving a blue GMC Acadia just north of the Florida Turnpike in Wildwood around 10:40 p.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle’s tag lights were not working, leading to a traffic stop at Mobil, located at 1221 S Main St.
The deputy spoke to Wells and asked for his driver’s license, registration and insurance. He handed over an Ohio ID and stated his license was suspended. He also claimed to have special conditions that allowed him to drive to and from work, the report said.
Wells gave the deputy a very worn piece of paper, which was a driving permit dated Nov. 21, 2024. The sentences were illegible, but the deputy could make out that Wells was allowed to drive to and from his place of employment. These were listed as Rupp Gutters in Indiana, Huhtamaki in Ohio and GHS All Purpose Cleaning in Ohio, the report said…
