Road rager sentenced for slashing tire in parking lot in The Villages

A man has been sentenced for slashing a tire in a parking lot in The Villages as the result of a road rage encounter.

John Robert Caldwell, 63, of Wildwood, pleaded no contest this past week in Sumter County Court to a charge of criminal mischief. He has been placed on probation for one year and was ordered to perform 40 hours of community service.

He was arrested in June by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies on a warrant charging him with criminal mischief.

Caldwell was at the wheel of a white Chevrolet Silverado on the morning of March 25 when he cut off another driver, forcing the other driver to slam on his brakes to avoid a collision, according to an arrest report. The two men got into a verbal altercation…
